The province of Tarlac has yet another reason to be proud, aside from being the hometown of Filipino heroes and great minds such as the likes of Ninoy Aquino and Carlos P. Romulo; it now offers its very own tourist destination. What used to be known just as a bus stop on the way to Baguio or the section of the route to the north that has the most traffic now has a distinct point of interest that may entice travelers to stay longer than the usual fifteen minutes.
This new pride of Tarlac is found in the Monasterio de Tarlac. This monastery is home to the Servants of the Risen Christ- the first and only order of religious Catholic monks founded in the Philippines. Their peaceful dwelling is a part of Tarlac’s Eco-Tourism park located in the town of San Jose, the isolated, mountainous western part of Tarlac.
A visit to the Monasterio offers a unique nature tour and pilgrimage all in one trip. The simple, charming and quiet Monasterio houses a Holy Relic of the Catholic faith, a piece of the actual Holy Cross. A long way off the city limits running through hills and rough roads, this is a good place for personal retreats and recollections. The rustic feel of the place gives one a perfect place for quiet meditation and communication with God and nature.
The Monasterio is open almost everyday of the week; everyone is welcome to celebrate a solemn Eucharistic Celebration with the monks.
